Mr. Hamlett was a native of Molena, GA., and grew up in the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Molena. He had lived in the Crest Community of Upson County for a number of years. He was employed for 42 years in the Piece Goods Department of the Thomaston Mills Bleachery. Mr. Hamlett was known to area residents as 'The Sunflower Man', named because of the beautiful field of sunflowers he planted each year along Crest Highway. Mr. Hamlett was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Howell Hamlett, in 2003. Mr. Hamlett is survived by three daughters, Beverly (Rick) Penczek of Griffin, and Linda (Mike) Sullivan and Brenda Hamlett Howington, both of Thomaston; two sons, Ronald (Kathy) Hamlett of Midland and Glenn Hamlett of Daytona Beach, FL; two brothers, Harold Hamlett and Mack Hamlett, both of Thomaston; 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
