Arlis Roberts

Mr. Arlis Roberts, 74, of Thomaston, died Friday, February 1st, 2013 at his home. Mr. Roberts was born in Fitzgerald on February 1st, 1939, a son of the late Lovis Roberts and Willie Bea Arthur Roberts. He had lived in Thomaston for many years and was a radio dispatcher for the Georgia Department of Transporation until his retirement in 1996 Mr. Roberts enjoyed working with young people. He served as a youth football coach for the PeeWee League Dolphins for a number of years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston and was instrumental in the success of the youth programs of the church. On many occasions he served as a chaperone and youth camp counselor. He also served as a Deacon and as the bass voice in the Silver Sounds Quartet. Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Saleeta A. Roberts; daughters, Lucy (Nathan) Snyder and Dottie Roberts, and a son, Alan Roberts, all of Thomaston; and a sister, Jeane R. Weeks of Macon; and a brother, Sonny Roberts of Blakely. Three grandchildren, Jade Roberts, Gabriel Snyder and Kelli (Wayne) Moore, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Roberts was cremated. Memorial services will be held Sunday, February 3rd, 2013 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church in Thomaston, led by Rev. Bill Barber, Rev. Leon Newman and Dr. Ed Cliburn. The family of Mr. Roberts will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 208 South Church St., Thomaston, GA 30286.
