Benny M. Mathis, Sr.

Mr. Benny Mathis, Sr., 73, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, November 14th, 2012 at his home. Mr. Mathis was born in Brookville, MD, on May 15th, 1939. He served his country in the U. S. Army and he and his wife, Mary S. Mathis, moved to Thomaston in 1986. He was a commercial driving instructor for the Commercial Driving Institute in Forsyth. He loved fishing and working on his boats. He never met a stranger and was generous to all. Mr. Mathis was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary S. Mathis, his daughter, Dawn (Brian) Voyce of Westminster, MD; his son, Benny Mathis, Jr., of Thomaston; his mother, Cornie S. Mathis of Thomaston; a brother, William (Edna) Mathis of Fort Valley; five grandchildren, Brittney Nicole Pollock, Christine Michelle Mathis, Dillon Mathis, Alexis McKenzie Spretzel, and Camden David Voyce; and two great grandchildren, Hayden Pollock and Brandon Michael Taylor. In accordance with his wishes Mr. Mathis was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
