Mr. Cecil D. Greathouse, 89, of 409 W. Goodrich Ave., died Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 at West Village Retirement Center. Mr. Greathouse was born in Talbot County but had lived in Upson County for most of his life. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served during World War II. During that service he was a member of the 99th Infantry Division and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered on February 13th, 1945 and was also awarded a Bronze Star. After his discharge from the U. S. Army Mr. Greathouse joined the Georgia National Guard and retired from that organization in 1968. Mr. Greathouse was a lab technician for the Georgia Department of Transportation for 30 years and was also a court bailiff and auxiliary deputy for Upson County for a number of years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston. Mr. Greathouse is survived by his wife of 41 years, Retha S. Greathouse; two sons, James C. 'Butch' (Susan) Greathouse of Kissimmee, FL and John R. 'Bobby' (Gayle) Greathouse of Apopka, FL; two step-daughters, Paulette (Jim) Baker of Carrollton and Cherry Ivey of Thomaston; and a step-son, Ricky Becham of Campeche, Mexico. Seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive.
