Doris Blount Huckabee of Thomaston, Georgia passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Sterling House Assisted Living in Tallahassee, Florida. Mrs. Huckabee was born May 14, 1918 in Upson County, to the late Velma Blount and Samuel Artis Blount. Mrs. Huckabee was preceded in death by her husband, Walter 'Huck' Huckabee, Jr., her sisters, Dove Blount Kersey and Jackie Blount Barron. Mrs. Huckabee worked many years in the insurance industry prior to owning and operating Trader Eng's Restaurant in Tallahassee, Florida along with her husband, from 1969 to 1980 at which time Mr. and Mrs. Huckabee retired to their hometown of Thomaston, Georgia. Mrs. Huckabee was a faithful, lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on many committees and was an active member for most of her life. Mrs. Huckabee was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Her great love was her family, her church and the community of Thomaston, Georgia. She is survived by daughter, Jane Huckabee Scott, her husband, Doug and her grandson, Clayton Scott who was the joy of her life, along with granddog Spot. Mrs. Huckabee is also survived by a sister, Betty Stephens of Atlanta, Georgia, brothers Billy Blount of Thomaston, Georgia and Sam Blount of Gainesville, Georgia, and many dear nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Covenant Hospice for the exceptional care that was given by their loving staff. Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home of Thomaston, Georgia in charge of arrangements.
