Mrs. Dorothy Holloway Cook, age 91, passed away Tuesday morning, September 7, 2010 at Riverside Nursing Center in Thomaston, Georgia after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by family and friends. The Whigham, Georgia native had lived in Thomaston over seventy years. Retired, she had worked in Thomaston's textile industry and the City Drug Store. In the late 1970's she opened and operated the Lady Fair cosmetic shop which she ran for many years. Her last employment before retirement found her doing public school music at Upson County's Thurston Elementary School. She was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Thomaston where she taught children and adults in Sunday School. In addition she sang in the choir as well as directed childrens musical programs. In every way she supported and participated in the church as long as her health permitted. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Woodrow Wilson Cook also of Whigham and Thomaston, Georgia. Survivors include her three children: Linda C. Maddox of Bethesda, Maryland, Thomas H. Cook of Savannah,Georgia and Nathan E. Cook of Waco,Texas. She has nine grandchildren and eighteen Great grandchildren. She also is survived by her brother, Warren Holloway of Thomaston and a host of nieces and nephews. Her family and friends celebrate her humor, generous and caring spirit, her inquiring mind, her sense of social justice and courageous faith. Funeral service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Thomaston, on Saturday morning, September 11, at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Bob Wilson, pastor of the church, Rev. Danny Cook, a grandson and Rev. Robert L. Maddox, son-in-law will lead the service assisted by other members of the family. Granchildren will serve as pall bearers.
