Dr. Gerald L. "Jerry" Corley

Dr. Gerald L. “Jerry” Corley, 83, of Talbotton, Georgia, passed away April 3, 2023, at his residence. Funeral services for Dr. Corley will be held Thursday, April 6, at 2:00 PM at Talbotton Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Duncan and Rev. Phil Herrington officiating. Interment will follow at Southview Cemetery in Thomaston. The family will receive extended family and friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home in Thomaston, on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.

Dr. Corley was born March 4, 1940, to the late G. T. Corley and Lola Corley. He earned a Master of Divinity and a PHD of Philosophy from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. A lifelong student, teacher, and lover of Christ, Jerry served as pastor of Talbotton Baptist Church from January 2001 until his earthly body required more rest. Jerry’s constant quest for knowledge was shared with everyone he encountered. Fluent in Greek, he often prepared his sermons in Greek and English. He was an English professor at Gordon State College in Barnesville, GA, and a Theology professor at Beacon College in Columbus, GA. He also taught Greek at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and at Baptist Bible Institute.  He served in the US Army Reserves.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Corley was preceded in death by a brother, James Corley. Survivors include his loving wife, Gayle Kilgore Corley; his children, Jay (Ki) Corley, Anne (Will) Morris, Sam Turner, Beth Turner (Derrick Respress), and Sarah Turner (Alex Glover); and two sisters, Jackie Melton and Jean Cole. As Granddaddy Extraordinaire, he will be sorely missed by his grandchildren: Grace, Sam, and Sophie Kate Corley, Hannah Jones, Jacob and Addison Turner, Dupri Carter, Oliver, Ada and Hugo Glover.
