Dr. Thomas A. Dees, age 82, of Thomaston, died Friday, February 4, 2022, at his residence. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Thomas A. Dees was born April 27, 1939 and spent most of his life living in Upson County. Dr. Dees traveled the southeastern region and many other countries in his pursuit of eradicating transmissible disease in man and animal's as a USDA Brucellosis Epidemiologist. He was also a Foreign Animal Diagnostician. Dr. Dees graduated from Auburn School of Veterinary Medicine, UGA and Texas A&M with Master's Degrees in Science (vaccine). He was known to all who knew him well in his profession as Tommy. His peers looked forward to regional meetings for his newest Cowboy Poetry he wrote pertaining to life and medicine. He was highly regarded as one of the more knowledgeable veterinarians in transmission of infectious diseases at the time…His family was proud to boast three veterinary graduates at Auburn. Dr. Dees served an extended tour of duty in Vietnam in the Special Forces as a Veterinary Civic Action Veterinarian. The Disney Company produced their version of a mission he was involved with moving Elephants in Vietnam. Operation Dumbo Drop. He was a man of destination and much loved by his wife Elaine, his 4 children Huggins, Bert, Glenn, and Laura, and his grandson, Ryker Dees. He had three siblings Donna, Lorri, and Scott. After Dr. Dees retirement from USDA, he totally enjoyed his time with the Florida Department of Agriculture working with vaccines in Pseudorabies in wild hogs. His funniest stories came from examining imported snakes and turtles for ticks to prevent obscure ticks bringing in heart worm disease into our country. We all hope to leave our foot prints in the sands of time to better our world and environment. A job well done. He was a man of God and a champion for integrity and hard work.
