Miss. Edna Ruth Mitchell, age 96, died Thursday, January 23, 2014, in Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center. Miss Mitchell was a lifelong resident of Upson County and was born to the late G. W. Mitchell and Myrtle Shearon Mitchell, After graduation from Tift College with an Education Degree, Miss Mitchell was employed by the Upson County Board of Education and taught at Yatesville High School and Robert E. Lee Institute. She served as Secretary of First Baptist Church and WMU Director during the pastorates of Rev. Montague Cook and Rev. James Windham. For forty-seven years, she taught the Euzelian Sunday School Class.. Miss Mitchell was predeceased by her sisters, Emma Smith, Laura Smith, Louise Dyer and Margaret Hooten. She is survived by a sister Evelyn Mitchell, of Thomaston; a niece, Rosemary Dyer of Thomaston; and a nephew, Richard Dyer, Norris TN. Funeral services for Miss Mitchell will be held Sunday, January 26, 2014, at 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, Thomaston, GA. Burial will follow in South View Cemetery. Rev. Bill Barber will officiate. The family will receive friends at Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home, Saturday from 4:00 PM until 5:30 PM.
