Elizabeth Adams Storey

Elizabeth Adams Storey, 98, formerly of Thomaston, GA, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA. Mrs. Storey was born March 26, 1912, in Upson County, GA. On June 14, 1933, she married her late husband, Edgar Harrison Storey. Survivors include her son, Rev. Sam A. Storey, Sr. (Carolyn) of Marietta, GA and her daughter, Susan Storey Thompson (Wayne) of Pavo, GA. Grandchildren include: Sam Storey, Jr. and Kristi of Marietta, Elizabeth (Betsy) and Robert Kelley of Kennesaw, Elizabeth and Brad Johnson and Catherine Storey Thompson of Thomasville. Great Grandchildren include: Elizabeth (Ellie) Michele, Robert Harber, and Frances Adams Storey of Marietta, Mary Margaret and Elizabeth Adeline Kelley of Kennesaw, Harrison Charles and Thomas Ryall Johnson of Thomasville. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Storey was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, Edgar Harrison Storey, Jr., brothers: Claude, J.W., Aubrey, and Johnny Adams, and sisters: Inez Taunton and Ruth Harkness. Upon graduating from R.E. Lee Institute in 1930, she attended Athens Business College and worked as a bookkeeper at Suggs Chevrolet. Upon having children, she became a devoted and loving homemaker. She enjoyed her picture framing business with the Harrison Storey Co. and later served as Secretary of the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston for over thirty years. Mrs. Storey was a longtime member of Thomaston First United Methodist Church, the Tumlin Sunday School Class, the Golden Age Club, and United Methodist Women. She was involved in her community as a member of the John Houston Chapter of NSDAR, Upson County Historical Society, as a 'Pink Lady' for the Upson County Hospital Auxiliary, and the local AARP Chapter. Her hobbies included playing bridge, scrabble, working on her family's genealogy, the History of Upson County, watching The Atlanta Braves, eating at Norris' Restaurant with friends, traveling, serving as a Girl Scout Leader, writing poetry and art sketching. She loved her hometown, family, and friends and told her children often: 'I love to wake up, get dressed, and get going every morning. Above all, I enjoy living life to the fullest!' In 2005 after living 93 years in Thomaston and Upson County, she relocated to Magnolia Manor South Retirement Home in Moultrie, GA, and the last two years was a resident of Camellia Gardens of Life Care in Thomasville, GA. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston with Rev. Hubert Flanagan and Dr. John Page, officiating. The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall at 1:00 p.m. (one hour prior to the service). The interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Southview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 707, Thomaston, GA 30286. Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
