Elsie Heath Mckinley

December 5, 1916 — March 17, 2012

Mrs. McKinley was born on December 5th, 1916. She was the younger daughter of the late Clifford C. and Clara Perkins Heath, pioneer citizens of Taylor County. A graduate of Georgia Southwestern College and Georgia State College for Women (now Ga. College and State University) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, she taught in several school systems throughout Georgia, inlcuding Taylor, Walton, Troup and Upson. She was a teacher and librarian in the Thomaston and Upson County School systems until her retirement in 1973. Mrs. McKinley was the wife of the late Benjamin F. McKinley who preceded her in death, as did her only sister, Mrs. Anna Jordan. Mrs. McKinley was a member of the Thomaston and Upson County Retired Educators Association and the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston, a member of the Tumlin Sunday School Class, the Golden Age Club and the AARP. Survivors include her daughter Louise (Al) Smith; two grandchildren Chris (Denise) Partain and Kelli (Jamie) Pitts; great grandsons Dylan and Jonathan Partain; and great granddaughters Kenley and Karsen Pitts.
