Mr. Frank Herron, Jr., 89, of Yatesville, died Thursday, January 17th, 2013 at his home. Mr. Herron was born in Smarr, Ga., on July 4th, 1923, a son of the late Frank Herron, Sr., and Emma Frances Barker Herron. He was a 1940 graduate of Yatesville High School and shortly after graduation joined the U. S. Army. Mr. Herron served under General George S. Patton at the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal for wounds he received during the fighting. Mr. Herron returned to Georgia after the war and worked until 1953 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He later worked for Frank Graham Lincoln Mercury and Wade Ford. From 1975 until 1979 he was the owner/operator of the Norcross Rapid Press. He was a charter president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1899 in Atlanta. Mr. Herron was an active Mason and member of the Shrine. He was a member of the Chamblee, GA., Masonic Lodge and the Yaarab Shrine Temple. He was also charter president of the Northeast Georgia Shrine Club. Mr. Herron was a member of the Yatesville Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Herron of Yatesville and his first cousin, Charlene Barker Teal of Yatesville.
