Mr. George Mack Hamlett, 89, formerly of 310 Triune Mill Rd., Thomaston, died Monday, November 19th, 2012 at West Village Retirement Center. Mr. Hamlett was born in Molena on January 4th, 1923, a son of the late George Washington Hamlett and Hattie McCrary Hamlett. At the age of 20 he joined the U. S. Army and served in General George Patton's Third Army during the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge Mr. Hamlett returned to Upson County and was employed for many years with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church. Mr. Hamlett is survived by three sisters-in-law, Mary Hamlett and Martha Jean Hamlett of Thomaston and Elsie S. Hamlett of Molena; a brother-in-law, Johnny Troubetaris of Massachusetts; special friends Robert and Judy Bowles and Bill and Lynn Shaver of Thomaston, and Debbie and Tom Cox of Palatka, FL; 36 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Hamlett, six sisters and five brothers, and a special friend, Lucy Shaver. Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
