Gerry Baker King

June 7, 1923 — June 11, 2013

Mrs. Gerry Baker King, 90, formerly of Jackson Ave,Thomaston, and wife of the late G. G. King, Jr., died Tuesday, June 11th, 2013. Mrs. King was born in Colquitt, GA, a daughter of the late Daniel Jackson Baker, Jr., and Lennie Omar Keen Baker. She was a 1945 graduate of Tift College and in 1968 earned her Masters Degree from Mercer University. Mrs. King was a high school teacher in the Thomaston City School System and the Lamar County School system for 35 years. She taught French, English, History and Social Studies. Mrs. King was a member of the Upson Regional Medical Center Auxilliary and logged over 9500 hours of volunteer service to that organization. She was also a past president of the Thomaston Garden Club, the Retired Teachers Association, and the R. E. Lee Jr. High School PTA. She was a member of the University of Georgia Bulldog Club. Mrs. King had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Thomaston sincer 1945 and was a charter member of the Builders Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Women's Missionary Union. Mrs. King is survived by two daughters, Kayla King (Bill) Hudson of Newnan and Kimi (Charles) Ivey of Surprise, AZ; a son, Hugh T. (Joy) King of Milton; and two brothers, Jack Baker and Edwin Baker, both of Sale City, GA. Seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by a step son, Grantland Gordon King III.
