Glenn E. Matthews

Mr. Matthews was a native of Upson County. He was a 1971 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and a graduate of Middle Georgia College. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelors Degree in Risk Management/Insurance. He was a State Farm Insurance Agent for 32 years. Mr. Matthews was a member of the First Baptist CHurch where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and was involved in the TV Ministry. He had been a scoutmaster for Troop 19 of the Boy Scouts of America, and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and the Good Shepherd Award. Mr. Matthews had been a member of the Flint River Academy Board of Trustees and was a charter member and former president of the Thomaston Sertoma Club. He had served on the Pine Mountain Regional Library Board and was involved with the Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Joanie Taylor Matthews; three sons, Taylor (Nicole) Matthews, Judson (Lindsey) Matthews and Blake Matthews, all of Thomaston; two sisters, Susan M. (Bob) Shepard of THomaston and Martha M. (Ed) Wilaon of Fayetteville; and one granddaughter, Ella Kate Matthews of Thomaston. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
