Mr. Franklin was a native of Thomaton and was formerly employed by the B.F. Goodrich Martha Mill. As a local businessman, Mr. Franklin was instrumental in developing the North Side Business District of Thomaston. Mr. Franklin was especially known for his service during World War II, having served in the U.S. Army where he saw combat in the European Theater and was involved in five major battles. He planned and built the North Side World War II Memorial. Mr. Franklin was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church. He was preceeded in death by his daughter, Mrs. Connie Franklin Storey and his wife, Mrs. Reba D. Franklin. Memorial contributions may be made to Antioch United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 1300, Thomaston, Ga. 30286. Mr. Franklin is survived by 2 sons, Mr. James C. 'Jim' (Lavon) Franklin, Jr., of Lakeland Florida; and Mr. Benny D. (Julie) Franklin, of Thomaston; 3 sisters - Mrs. Betty (Harold) Brodnax, Mrs. Ruby White and Mrs. Doris Jordan, all of Thomaston; 1 Brother - Mr. Otis(Barbara) Franklin, of Thomaston, 4 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren also survive.
