Kenneth Carl Asmussen, 89, of Thomaston, died on Thursday March 21 at Providence Health and Rehab. He was born on April 2, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Otto and Helen(Vick) Asmussen. Upon his graduation from high school, Mr. Asmussen enlisted in the army and served overseas for the duration of WWII. He was employed by the Ohio Bell Telephone Company and later by ATT and retired from ATT as a District Manager. Mr. Asmussen was always very active in his church and community and he continued to be when he moved to Thomaston in 2002 following the death of his wife, Elizabeth (Munding) Asmussen. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston and volunteered in many church and community activities. Mr. Asmussen loved God, his country, and people, and was known for his ready smile and helping hand. Survivors include his very special friend, Sue Birdsong, his children, Rev. Mary Jane (Jim) Gardner of Pike County, John(Becky) Asmussen of Westland, MI, brother, Richard (Madalyn) Asmussen of Sebring, FL, grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Gardner of Pike County, Tanya(Brian) Pickens and John Asmussen,Jr. of Plymouth, MI, and three great grandchildren. A reception will be held in the church Fellowship Hall following the service and all are invited to gather together for a time of visiting, sharing stories and remembering, and celebrating the love and joy that “Mr. Ken” shared with us all.
