Laura Summers Murray

Laura Summers Murray of Atlanta, GA died on January 22, 2014 in Camden, SC at the age of 85. Born on May 16, 1928 in Barnesville, GA, she was the second child of Laura Belle Brewster Summers and Riley Summers. After moving at a very young age to Thomaston, GA, she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1945. She attended Shorter College in Rome, GA and later graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree. She married James Bernard Murray, Jr. on July 7, 1959 and moved to Summit, NJ. While living there, they had two sons, Robert and James III. The family moved to Atlanta, GA in 1972, and she remained there until 2011, when she relocated to Camden to be closer to her son, Robert, and his family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her father, Riley Summers; her mother, Laura Belle Brewster Summers; her brother, Charles Orlando Summers; and her husband, James Bernard Murray, Jr. She is survived by her son Robert B. Murray, his wife Sarah, and their son James of Camden, SC; and her son James B. Murray, III of Mountain Brook, AL. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville, GA.
