Mr. Marshall Hammond Callaway, Jr., age 82, of Molena, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Emory University Hospital in Decatur. Funeral services for Mr. Callaway will be held Friday, May 14, 2010 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Molena. Rev. Mark Harris will officiate and burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Callaway was a native of Morgan County, a son of the late Marshall Hammond Callaway, Sr., and Lena Stovall Callaway of Bostwick, GA. He graduated from Bostwick High School and attended Mercer University for a year before joining the U. S. Navy. Mr. Callaway served during World War II. After his military service Mr. Callaway resumed his education and was graduated from the University of Georgia in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. He taught veterans from 1949 to 1950. In 1949 Mr. Callaway married Jean McCrary Callaway and in 1951 they moved to Molena. There he enjoyed farming and raising turkeys. He also worked for 30 years as an inspector for the Georgia Department of Agriculture. He was a member and Deacon Emeritus of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Callaway is survived by five children, Brian (Carol) Callaway of Alexandria, VA, David (Starr) Callaway, Marcia Callaway (George) Ingram and Hammond “Chip” Callaway, all of Molena, and Glenn (Patty) Callaway of Concord; four sisters, Martha Jo Paxton and Wynelle Ruark, both of Bostwick; Allie (Charles) Kilpatrick-Hill of Milledgeville, and Myra Folsom of Villa Rica; 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Building Fund, 1171Hwy 109, Molena, GA 30258, or a favorite charity.
