Marvin Spillers

October 31, 1923 — November 14, 2014

Marvin Spillers, 91, of Chula, died Friday, November 14, 2014 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, GA after a lengthy illness. A visitation will be held from 6-8 Sunday evening, November 16, 2014 at Albritton Funeral Directors in Tifton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 17, 2014 in the chapel of Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home in Thomaston, Georgia. Interment will follow in Southview Cemetery, Thomaston. The family will receive friends from 12-2 before the service at Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home in Thomaston. Mr. Spillers was born October 31, 1923 in Taylor County to the late George Washington and Julia Elizabeth Hortman Spillers. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtle Mae Morris Spillers, a daughter, Marva June Early and a brother George Melvin Spillers. Mr. Spillers was employed with Sears in Thomaston for twenty years and several textile companies before moving to Tifton in 2003. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Tifton and was a former member of First Baptist Church in Thomaston for many years, where he was the last living member of the Men’s Fellowship Sunday School Class. Mr. Spillers is survived by his wife of eleven years, Frances Hancock Shaw Spillers; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol Joy and Hugh King of Midland; five stepchildren, Debra Elaine Shaw, Wanda Darlene Tillman, Harvey Lamar Shaw, Donna Lee Morgan and Tim Shaw; one grandson and his wife, Jacob and Jennifer King; two great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Helen Spillers of North Carolina; one son-in-law, Ralph Early of Georgia; one brother and sister-in-law, Woodrow and Linda Hancock of Adel; several nephews and many devoted cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Thomaston, 208 S. Church St., Thomaston, GA 30286 or to the Cancer Car Ministry, c/o Carey Pitts, 300 Upson Avenue, Thomaston, GA 30286.
