Mary Frances Smith

Mrs. Mary Frances Smith, 82, of 112 Shasta Dr., Thomaston, died Monday, March 18th, 2013 at Upson Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Smith was born in Blytheville, AR on March 28th, 1930. She moved from Flint, MI, to Los Angeles, CA, in 1960 and worked at The Salvation Army Men's Social Services Center. She served as a soldier in The Salvation Army and devoted over 37 years of her life to that organization. Mrs. Smith was also the office manager for the Lincoln Electric Co., from 1966 to 1988. In 1988 she and her husband, the late Derwood Howard Smith, moved to Thomaston and she became the Business Administrator for Rehab Services of Middle Georgia. Mrs. Smith had been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1988 and served as a Sunday School teacher and, in keeping with her service with The Salvation Army, became an advocate and tireless worker for the House of Care. Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Col. Sharron (David) Hudson of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; a son, Dannie (Vicki) Smith of Thomaston; two step daughters, Rosalie (Bill) Craven of Flint, MI, and Cecile (Al) Morgan of Tustin, CA; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her mother, Leta S. Dover.
