Mr. Mitchel Smith, age 90, of Thomaston, died January 29, 2011, in Riverside Health and Rehab. Mr. Smith was born in Upson County to the late Ben Hill Smith and Mattie Bell Dickens Smith. He will be remembered for his many years of service to the Silvertown Baptist Church, where he was a charter member, a deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He also served as the Centennial Baptist Association Training Union Director and was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis. After his retirement from Thomaston Mills, at age 62, he owned and operated a roofing business for twenty-five years. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth York Smith, three sons, Reginald (Jan) Smith, of Atlanta; Kenneth (Peggy) Smith, Griffin; Pendley (Bonnie) Smith, of Thomaston; two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette S. Bedford, of Thomaston; Mrs. Lucile Kinsler, of Dahlonega; one brother, Mr. Chester Smith, of Troy, TN; Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Dana Mackert, Dallas, TX; Rodney Smith, Carrollton; Michele Crutchfield, Peachtree City; Wayne Wheeles, Thomaston; Barry (Tammy) Wheeless, Thomaston; Nathan Smith, Byron; Eric Smith, Savannah and nine great-grandchildren.
