Mr. Bentley Childs Adams Jr.

August 20, 1931 — September 29, 2015

BENTLEY C. ADAMS, JR. departed this life on September 29, 2015. He was born on August 20, 1931. He was in his 84th year. A 1954 graduate of the Southern School of Pharmacy of Mercer University, Mr. Adams was a retired pharmacist. He was a 1948 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute in Thomaston. He was the owner of Adams Drugs which was located on the square in Thomaston for many years. On many occasions Mr. Adams would go to his store in the middle of the night to fill a prescription for an ailing patient. He allowed patients who were short of funds to charge their medications and pay them off on time, a practice seldom seen these days. Mr. Adams was a past president of the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association and a recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia Award for service to the profession. Mr. Adams was the son of the late Dr. Bentley C. Adams, Sr. and Mary B. Adams. He was married to the late Glenda F. Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Adams had three children, Bentley C. Adams, III, Allan T. Adams, and Jennifer Lynn Adams. Mr. Adams was a loving and patient father to his children and later his grandchildren. He could always be counted on to provide support when they needed his help. Bentley Adams was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston where he served as a deacon. Mr. Adams was an avid golfer who passed his passion for the game on to his children and grand children. He played in many golf tournaments over the years. While his game was not always of the highest caliber he was a master of “trash talk” which frequently rattled his opponents. A round of golf with Bentley Adams was always entertaining. He often took his children and grandchildren to the Masters. Mr. Adams was a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs football team. He once received an award from Coach Vince Dooley after Mr. Adams injured himself by jumping up, hitting the ceiling and knocking himself unconscious following a Georgia touchdown. Coach Dooley called it the “Bulldog Knockout Award.” He was a long time Bulldog season ticket holder and attended many games. Bentley Adams is survived by one son, Bentley C. Adams, III, his daughter in law, Debra J. Adams, 6 grandchildren, Bentley C. Adams, IV, Laura Jane Adams, Mary Alice Adams Dugger, Aaron B. Adams, Allan T. Adams, Jr., Amanda Jean Adams, and one great grandchild, Raelynn Jean Adams. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Fletcher Day Funeral Home in Thomaston. Viewing will be from 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the funeral home. Mr. Adams’ funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Thomaston on Friday, October 2nd, 2015 at 4:00 PM. Interment to follow at Crystal Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Sanctuary Renovation Fund, 208 South Church St., Thomaston, GA 30286.
