On Thursday, March 30, 2023, Byron Vance Dobbs passed away at age 66 at Upson Regional Medical Center. Vance had resided in Concord, Georgia, for 10 years.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 1, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Fletcher Day Funeral Home. Services will be held Sunday, April 2, at 2:00 PM, in the mausoleum chapel of Cheatham Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service.
Vance was born on September 27, 1956, in Atlanta, Georgia to Byron and Isabel (Kelly) Dobbs. He grew up in Smyrna, Georgia where he was active in Boy Scouts and Army ROTC. Vance graduated from Campbell High School in 1975 and continued his education at Marietta-Cobb Vocational School where he graduated in Auto Mechanics and Small Engine Repair. Vance married Melanie Hamilton and raised a daughter Jennifer Diane Dobbs.
Vance had a passion for cars and airplanes. He was an avid NASCAR fan and also followed the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds, frequently attending airshows when possible. His most beloved hobby was radio-controlled airplanes. One of Vance’s most proud accomplishments was being recognized by the Perfect Attendance Award while he was employed at Dobco in Manchester, Georgia, as a Maintenance Technician. He often passed time riding his golf cart and listening to Rock and Roll on his radio.
Vance was preceded in death by his father, Byron Hugh and his mother Isabel Kelly. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Diane Dobbs, sister Susannah Isabel Dobbs, and several cousins.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Cambridge House.
