Mr. Calvin Smith

Mr. Calvin Smith, 89, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held on Friday, February 12th, 2016 at 2 pm in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Barber officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mr. Smith will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 until 8 pm. Mr. Smith was born in Thomaston on October 13, 1926, a son of the late Reuben Andrew Smith and Mattie Pearl Boyers Smith. He was a 1943 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute, and was also a veteran of the U. S. Army and served during World War II. Mr. Smith was employed by Thomaston Mills for 30 years and then opened the Calvin Smith Accounting Service, which he operated until his retirement. Mr. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was also a Mason and Shriner, and was recently presented with his 60 year membership pin. Mr. Smith is survived by four children, Carol Smith Harpe of Peachtree City, Terrell Andrew (Sue) Smith of Rock Hill, SC, Lynn (David) Hardage of Sharpsburg, and Tracey (Scott) Hall of Kennesaw; six grandchildren, Leslie Harpe Chapman of Macon, Dacia Rae Smith of Rock Hill, SC, Melissa Harpe (Ben) Melancon of Lawrenceville, Damon Andrew (Courtney) Smith of Savannah, and Emily Kathryn Hall and Seth William Hall, both of Kennesaw; and one great grandchild, Hope Larkin Melancon of Lawrenceville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verlie O. Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 208 South Church Street, Thomaston, GA 30286.
