Mr. Carter Lumsden, age 60, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2019, in Griffin, Georgia after a long battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. His attitude and outlook during his illness were inspiring to many. Born on January 18, 1959 in Atlanta, Georgia, Carter was the youngest child of Thomas and Nelle Lumsden. Growing up, Carter lived in Northeast Atlanta during the week - but he spent most of his weekends at his family’s farm in Talbotton. His time in Talbotton instilled in him a love of nature, wildlife, and farming. In his teenage years, the family’s land also provided an opportunity for him to develop a dirt bike riding hobby as well as a love for kayaking and camping. Carter attended Lakeside High School in Decatur. He then went on to Georgia State University where he joined the Sigma Nu fraternity. In 1980, he began his career with Pye-Barker Welding Supply Company. He worked at this family business for many years. Later, Carter became an entrepreneur - and most recently, he founded and operated a wedding venue in Griffin. Carter was an avid outdoorsman and also enjoyed tennis, antiquing, and skiing. Carter is survived by his two children, Kimberly Caudill (Justin) and Justin Lumsden (Allison) and his grandchildren (Benjamin, Kinley, Griffin, and Hollis). He is also survived by his two brothers, Roger Lumsden and Stan Lumsden (Andrea), as well as four nephews (Brian, Grayson, Shawn, and Josh). A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019, from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home located at 628 North Church Street, Thomaston, GA 30286 (706.647.6644). A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM at Collinsworth Methodist Church located at 5851 Po Biddy Road, Talbotton, Georgia 31827. Interment will follow the service in Collinsworth Methodist Church Cemetery. The family encourages donations to Collinsworth Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
