Mr. Ernest W. Dawson

Mr. Ernest W. Dawson, age 93, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Dawson will be held Tuesday, January 25, at 2:00 PM, at Fellowship Baptist Church with Dr. Rex King officiating. Interment will follow the service in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Mr. Dawson was born in Thomaston on September 10, 1928, a son of the late James Ernest Dawson and the late Wilma Lucile Mauldin Dawson. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was employed by Thomaston Mills and retired as cloth room manager. His favorite hobby was work. He also enjoyed building and woodworking. He built many things including houses, cabinets, tables, and cradles. Mr. Dawson was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Mr. Dawson is survived by his daughter, Cherie Dawson of Thomaston; his sons, Mark (Reba) Dawson Gasque of Anderson, South Carolina; Danny Ray (Cheryl) Dawson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his sister, Diane (Walter) Slaton of Oxford, North Carolina; his brothers, Roy (Brenda) Dawson of Thomaston; Bobby Dawson of Jackson; and his grandchildren, Daniel Dawson, Chad Gasque, Brad Gasque, Grayson Gasque, Diana Woffinden, and Raleigh Dawson. Also surviving are several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Ruth Cox Dawson, his son, Mart Dawson, and his sisters, Elizabeth Smith and Rheunette Aydlotte.
