Mr. Franklin Varnell Slaughter, age 74, of Thomaston, died Monday morning, January 17, 2022, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Slaughter will be held on Thursday, January 20, at 2:00 PM, in the Chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Mr. Slaughter was born in Thomaston on February 14, 1947, to the late Roy Varnell Slaughter and the late Ola Mae Ruffin Slaughter. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed by the railroad as an engineer where he retired after 38 years with Norfolk Southern. He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Slaughter is survived by his wife, Randy Averett Slaughter of Thomaston; a daughter, Angela (Ken) Henshaw of Vero Beach, Florida; his sons, Mike (Nancy Slaughter and Jimmy “Clu” (Misti Lynn) Slaughter, both of Thomaston; stepsons, Kevin Rowe of Macon; Scott (Christine) Cowan of Woodbury; grandchildren, Kaley Bates, Logan Slaughter, Steven Slaughter, Angie Slaughter, and Chace Rowe. He is also survived by Joyce Slaughter of Vero Beach, Florida. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home of Thomaston is in charge of all arrangements.
