Mr. Ryals was a native of Harris County, born to George Franklin Ryals, Sr., and Nellie Salter Ryals. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. As a platoon sergeant, he supervised the construction and repair of roads and bridges, moving natural and man made obstacles that impeded the movement of American forces. He also supervised the use of demolitions needed for this work. During his tour of duty he was wounded twice in 12 days on the island of Mindanao. During his working life Mr. Ryals was employed as an electrician with the J. M. Clayton Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Alice Brown Ryals. Mr. Ryals is survived by his daughter, Nan Ryals of Temple; his son, Butch (Donlea) Ryals of Thomaston; his brother, Robert Ryals of Thomaston; four grandchildren, Daryll Ryals, Christopher Guston Ryals, Kevin Sylvester Ryals and Matthew Alvarado, all of Thomaston; and five great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Home of Georgia. Donations may be mailed to the Grand Lodge Secretary, P. O. Box 4665, Macon, Georgia 31208.
