Mr. Jackie M. Chastain, age 81, of Thomaston, died Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, GA. Graveside memorial services for Mr. Chastain will be held Monday, August 21, at 11:00 AM, in South View Cemetery with Rev. Andy Cunningham officiating. The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home Sunday, August 20, from 4:00 until 6:00 PM.
Mr. Chastain was born June 26, 1942, in Akron, OH, to the late John A., Chastain, Sr. and the late Essie Mae McKinney Chastain. He was a graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and attended LaGrange College. Mr. Chastain began working at Reeves Pharmacy at the age of fourteen. He later worked for Nehi Bottling Company and also worked with his brother, Gerald, in the construction of homes. He was a retired supervisor with the Georgia Department of Corrections. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with friends. Mr. Chastain was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston, and he was formerly a member of the First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst, where he participated in several mission trips to Honduras, West Virginia, and Mississippi, using his construction skills.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Chastain was preceded in death by two brothers, John A. Chastain, Jr. and Maj. (Ret) James T. Chastain. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linda Ann Chastain of Thomaston; two sons: David "Andy" Chastain of Thomaston, and Matthew (Courtney) Chastain of Carrollton, GA; a brother, Gerald Chastain of Thomaston; five grandchildren: Katie (Adam) McClain, Lindsey Chastain (Kush Bhagat), Jacob Chastain, Tyson Chastain, and Anna Chastain; and four great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
