Mr. James Alton Bland, 90, of Thomaston, died Monday, December 27, 2021, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Bland will be held Thursday, December 30, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Dr. Rex King will officiate, and burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the service hour. Mr. Bland was born on June 21, 1931, in Thomaston, to the late Harvey Bland and Geanie Belle Allmond Bland. He was a graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and served his country in the U. S. Air Force stationed with the military police in England. He was retired from Federal Paper Board Company and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bland was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Janelle Thomason Bland, and two sisters, Barbara Jones Lowry and Faye Jones Talley. Survivors include two daughters: Dana (Greg) Fowler of Thomaston and Renee (Kevin) Arnold of Newnan, GA; one sister, Elizabeth (Dan) Witty of Spring Hill, FL; three grandsons: Ansley (Laura) Fowler of Tiger, GA; Austin Waddle of Denver, CO; and Dalton Arnold of Newnan, GA; two great grandchildren: Barnes Fowler and Eleanor Grace Fowler, both of Tiger, GA; two brothers-in-law: Steve (Grace) Thomason of San Antonio, TX; and Dennis (Ann) Thomason of Memphis, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Thomaston Hospice Foundation, 512 S. Center St., Thomaston, GA 30286.
