Mr. James Ernest "Jimmy" Butts

Mr. James Ernest 'Jimmy' Butts, 74, of Thomaston, GA, died November 17, 2017, at the Molena Nursing Home. Funeral services for Mr. Butts will be held Sunday, November 19, at 3:00 PM, at The Gathering, with Rev. Charles Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at The Gathering. Mr. Butts, son of the late Walter Butts and Julia Abernathy Butts, was born in Thomaston, GA, on April 24, 1943. He received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia, and he had been employed as a purchasing agent by the B. F. Goodrich Company. Mr. Butts was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country in Vietnam. He was a member of The Gathering. Mr. Butts loved his grandchildren and UGA football, and he was a devoted family man. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James E. Butts, Jr., a sister, Anne Butts Ellerbee, and a brother, Walter Ray Butts. Survivors include 2 sons: John (Traci) Butts and Andrew (Jamie) Butts, both of Dacula, GA; 2 stepsons: Heath (Stephanie) Brodnax and Jonathan (Megan) Brodnax; one sister: Jane Butts (Steve) Collins of Thomaston, GA; six grandchildren: Jake, Lauren, Ashlynn, Drew, Brayden, and Avery Butts. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Contributions in memory of Mr. Butts may be made to the DAV.
