Mr. James H. Mckinley

Mr. James H. McKinley, 98, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, December 17th, 2013 at Riverside Nursing Center. Mr. McKinley was born on September 15, 1915. He was a machinist for Thomaston Mills for many years. James was saved in the spring of 1940 and joined the Thomaston Church of God on July 21, 1946. He was a dedicated Christian. In 1969 he set a goal for perfect attendance in Sunday School. He reached 40 years without missing a Sunday in the House of God before his health made it impossible for him to continue. He served for 10 years as Sunday School Superintendent. Even though he lost his eyesight in 1960, Mr. McKinley had read the Bible throughout more than 30 times, using the Talking Books of the Bible for the Blind. Mr. McKinley is survived by a daughter, Helen Bynum of Thomaston, and two sons, Harvey (Barbara) McKinley of Locust Grove and Douglas McKinley of Griffin. Ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Johns McKinley and a daughter, Cathryn McKinley Kirkland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thomaston Church of God, P. O. Box 1256, Thomaston, GA 30286.
