Mr. James "Jimmy" VanHouten, 78, of Meansville, GA, died Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville, GA. Funeral services for Mr. VanHouten will be held on Saturday, January 30, at 2:00 PM, at Clark's Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Dean Hemphill officiating. A private family burial will follow the service. The family will receive friends Saturday at Clark's Chapel Baptist Church from 1:00 until the funeral hour. Mr. VanHouten, a native Upsonian, was born on November 19, 1942, to the late James Holloway VanHouten and the late Annie Mae Holt VanHouten. He was a 1960 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute. Mr. VanHouten was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in Korea during the Vietnam era. He was employed as an electrician with the J. M. Clayton Company and later with Quad Graphics. Mr. VanHouten was a Boy Scout Troop Leader when his sons were involved in scouting. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. VanHouten was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Huckaby VanHouten and a brother, Tommy VanHouten. Survivors include his sons: Christopher James (Judy) VanHouten and Kevin Brian (Mandy) VanHouten, both of Meansville, GA; two brothers: Gary (Sue) VanHouten of Brunswick, GA, and Terry (Sharon) VanHouten of Thomaston, GA; five grandchildren: Hannah VanHouten, Mason McChargue, Samantha (Jason) Callahan, Brooke (David) Bond, and Abigail VanHouten. Two great grandchildren, Sayler and Ryleigh-Ann Callahan also survive. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the charity of their choice.
