Mr. Jerry L. “Gurns” Worthy, age 68, of Thomaston, died Saturday, March 16, 2024, at his daughter’s residence in Williamson.
A graveside funeral service for Mr. Worthy will be held on Tuesday, March 19, at 11:00 AM, at New Hope Cemetery in Yatesville. Rev. John Wesley Long will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until the service hour at the cemetery.
Mr. Worthy was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 8, 1956, a son of the late Charles Cecil Worthy and the late Margaret Chisenhall Worthy. He was employed in the weave department at Aldora Mills and was later the owner/operator of Worthy Mop and Broom. He enjoyed fiddling with things and was exceptionally talented with carpentry. He enjoyed working on cars and he was known, no matter the circumstance, to figure out any problem when it came to working on stuff. He loved playing the drums. Mr. Worthy was a member of Yatesville Baptist Church.
Mr. Worthy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters, Jill (Rick) Brazier of Williamson and Jennifer (Keith) Neal of Covington; his son, Jeremy (Lacy) Worthy of Barnesville; his sisters, Pat (John) Briley of Barnesville and Charlene Raines of Thomaston; and his brother, John Worthy of Yatesville. He was affectionately known as, “Papa Gurns” to his seven grandchildren, Dawson, Brantley, Laura Grace, Bella, Lillie, Garrett, and Sydney, and his great grandchild, Grayson. Also surviving are his niece and nephew, Vicki (Chris) Sollenberger and Barry (Marilyn) Raines.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Nicholas “Nick” Worthy.
