Mr. John Harold Brodnax, Sr., 96, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019. Harold was born February 10, 1923, in Renfroe (Cusseta), GA, to Mary Lou Smith Brodnax and William Travis Brodnax, Sr. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by a sister, Elinor Brodnax Wilson, and two brothers, Billy and Carlton Brodnax, all of Thomaston, GA. He is survived by his wife, Betty Franklin Brodnax; a son, Johnny (Sandy) Brodnax of Thomaston, and a daughter, Trish (Chris) Nigro of Clemson, SC; four grandchildren, Heath (Stephanie) Brodnax and Jonathan (Megan) Brodnax of Thomaston; Cindy (Will) Smoak and Alex Nigro of Clemson, SC; one sister, Joan Brodnax Hill of Thomaston and several nieces and nephews. Harold proudly served his country in World War II (Europe) with the U. S. 7th Army, 20th Armored Division. After the war, Harold returned to Thomaston and pursued a degree from Gordon Military College in Barnesville, GA. Harold was humbled and proud to return to Dachau, Germany in April 1996 to participate in the placement of a wreath and the hanging of a plaque that honored the 20th Armored Division (Liberators) who participated in the liberation of Dachau Concentration Camp April 29, 1945. A family graveside service and interment will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 2:00 Pm in South View Cemetery in Thomaston. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cancer Car Ministry, c/o Carey Pitts, 300 Upson Avenue, Thomaston, GA 30286. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
