Mr. John Pope "Johnny" Barker, Jr.

Mr. John Pope "Johnny" Barker, Jr, age 82, died Sunday, March 27, 2022, at his home in Molena, Georgia. Graveside memorial services for Mr. Barker will be held Wednesday, March 30, at 11:00 a.m., at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mark Harris officiating. The family of Mr. Barker will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home, Thomaston, GA. Mr. Barker was born August 16, 1939, in Molena, GA, the son of the late John P. Barker, Sr. and Kathryn S. Barker. He served in the Georgia National Guard and enjoyed a fifty year career in community banking. In 1965, he moved to Sandersville, Georgia as the bank’s manager, Cashier, for the newly formed Citizens Bank of Washington County. There, he met his wife, Elizabeth Anne Snider and they were married in 1966. In 1969, they moved back to Molena where he worked as Cashier, CEO and President of Bank of Molena (now First Bank of Pike) until his retirement in 2008. He attended West Georgia College and was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Banking as well as the Graduate Banking School of the South at Louisiana State University. He served on the City Council of Molena as well as its Mayor. He loved his community and served on several Pike County Boards, most recently the Pike County Water Authority. He was a member of the Molena Baptist Church. Mr. Barker is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Anne Barker; his son, John P. Barker III (Tiffanie); daughter, Sallie K. Barker; and his two granddaughters, Alexis Barker and Sidney Barker. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Thomaston Hospice Foundation, 512 S.
