Mr. John Whipple Singletary, 79, of Thomaston, GA, died Saturday, March 4, 2017. A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 12, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Baptist Church in Thomaston, with Rev. Bob Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at Trinity Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson, GA, on Saturday, March 18, at 11:00 AM. Mr. Singletary was born in Dawson, GA, on October 18, 1937, to the late Verma Lee and Grace L. Singletary. He was a 1956 Graduate of Terrell County High School. He earned a degree in Business Administration from Ga. Southwestern College and a degree in Trade and Industrial Education from the University of Georgia. Mr. Singletary taught in Terrell, Calhoun, Brantley, and Upson Counties and was involved with the VICA student club. Mr. Singletary was active in the Georgia National Guard, serving at different times, from 1955 to 1986. He served as NCO of Electrical Section and Mess Sergeant. He was a member of the Georgia Lions Club for many years, serving as Past President of the local club, Vice District Governor of MD 18E in 2002-2003, and Governor from 2003-2004. He was active with the Lions Camp for the Blind in Waycross, GA. Mr. Singletary was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he was a member of the Adult Men Sunday School Class and a past president of Brotherhood. Mr. Singletary is survived by his wife, JoAnne K. Singletary of Thomaston, two sons: Johnny (Lea) Singletary, Jr. of Valdosta, GA, and Jeffrey L. Singletary, Sr. of Waynesville, GA, and two grandsons: Jeffrey L. Singletary, Jr. and Edward G. Singletary, both of Waynesville, GA.
