Mr. John William 'JW' Edmondson, 85, of Thomaston, died Saturday, February 24, 2018. Funeral services for Mr. Edmondson will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family of Mr. Edmondson will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Mr. Edmondson was born in Butler on October 14, 1932, a son of the late Robert Mitchell and Lula Mae Hinton Edmonson. He served his country in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. During his war service he was a member of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team and made two combat jumps during the fighting. After his military service ended Mr. Edmondson was employed by Thomaston Mills and at his retirement he was a Dye Range Supervisor in the Finishing Division. Mr. Edmondson was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Morning Star Lodge 27, F & AM. Mr. Edmondson is survived by three daughters, Christy (Dr. Drennan) Dobbs and Lisa (Glen) Stevens, both of Thomaston, and Rhonda (Dr. Sergio) Gregoretti of Salem, SC; a sister, Nancy Turner of Wilmington, NC; a sister-in-law, Christine Bailey of Thomaston; a brother, Al Edmonson of Port Orange, FL; two grandchildren, Jonathan (Jenna) Robinson of Pinehurst, NC, and William (Chelsea) Stevens of Nashville, TN; two great grandchildren, Luke and Tripp Robinson; and a special friend, Gloria Clark of Thomaston. Mr. Edmondson was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Shumate Edmondson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pass the Salt Ministry of the First Baptist Church, 208 South Church St., Thomaston, GA 30286. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
