Mr. Max Tolbert Holliman

Mr. Max Tolbert Holliman, 62, of Thomaston, died August 3, 2017, at Riverside Health and Rehab. Funeral Services for Mr. Holliman will be held Sunday, August 6, at 3:00 PM, at the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston. Rev. Eddie Herring will officiate and burial will follow in South View Cemetery. Mr. Holliman was born June 25, 1955, in Atlanta. He was reared in Thomaston where he attended R. E. Lee Grammar School and was a 1973 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute. He then attended Emory at Oxford College, Emory University, and the University of West Georgia, graduating with a BA degree in Psychology. Both during and after college, Mr. Holliman wrote, studied, and performed music as a semiprofessional musician. In the 1970s, he sang and played guitar in Atlanta in the theatrical rock band, The Nobz, who performed live on WXIA TV Atlanta and at the Atlanta Civic Center. In the 1980s he studied and performed in West Virginia in the guitar orchestra of Robert Fripp and the League of Crafty Guitarists. In the 1990s he performed in New York and Los Angeles as a solo loop artist, guitarist, and singer who used the stage name of The Intergalactic Cowboy. As The Intergalactic Cowboy, he released eight musical recordings on several independent music labels. He also performed six live worldwide internet broadcasts from radio stations WUOG - Athens, GA, WREK - Atlanta, GA, and WRAS - Atlanta, GA. In 2003 he returned to Thomaston, teaching guitar in Upson, Pike, and Lamar Counties. Mr. Holliman was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston. Mr. Holliman was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Allen Holliman of Upson County; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Max V. Tolbert of Calhoun, GA; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Emmett Holliman of Thomaston, GA; and his brother John Holliman, Jr., of Shepherdstown, WV. Survivors include his sister-in-law Dianne Edwards Holliman of Shepherdstown, WV, and a nephew John Emmett 'Jay' Holliman, of Georgetown, DE .
