Melvin H. Fallin, Jr., 80, died Friday, September 20, 2019, at his beloved home in Thomaston, Ga. Funeral services for Melvin will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 23, at First Baptist Church of Thomaston, with the Rev. Bill Barber and Mr. Chris Hinson officiating. Interment will follow in South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Sunday evening, September 22, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. The family requests that any memorials be made to Thomaston Christmas Kitchen; c/o Mrs. Carol Anglin, 605 Burkett Road, Thomaston, GA 30286. Born in Thomaston on July 21, 1939, Melvin was one of three children of the late Melvin and Mattie Dawson Fallin. He grew up in Thomaston and graduated from Robert E. Lee Institute, where he met his future wife, Phyllis Curry. Melvin and Phyllis were married on February 16, 1960. Melvin received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University. He was the owner of Thomaston Hardware, which he purchased in 1981 – and previously had a successful career with Citizens and Southern Bank in Milledgeville, Ga. He was a dedicated member of Kiwanis International for more than forty years, with perfect attendance for over twenty years. Melvin was president of the Milledgeville Kiwanis Club (1977-78) and honored as Kiwanian of the year (2012-2013) by the Thomaston Kiwanis Club. Melvin was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Thomaston, where he served on and chaired numerous boards. He was also a member of the choir and fully enjoyed participating in many of the church’s mission trips. Family was most important to Melvin, as was his church and the community, especially Thomaston Christmas Kitchen. Melvin was a volunteer and served on the Board for many years. He was an avid gardener, with the ability to successfully nurture his many flowers, plants and trees. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis, and his sister, Charlene Allen. He is survived by his two daughters: Sherri F. (Thomas) Simmons, of Atlanta, and Kristi F. (Jeff) Rabon of Thomaston; his son, Phillip (Lynn) Fallin, of Thomaston; his brother, Harold Fallin, of Thomaston; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren.
