Mr. Dawkins was a native of Porterdale but had lived in Thomaston since childhood. He was a graduate of the R. E. Lee Institute and a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He served during World War II. Mr. Dawkins retired from Thomaston Mills after 42 years of service where he worked as a supervisor in the Twister Room. Mr. Dawkins was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons and the Shrine. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Dawkins was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Mott Dawkins, who died in 1995. Mr. Dawkins is survived by three sisters, Pauline Agnew of Jonesboro, Frances Deal of Cedartown and Fairy (Gene) Jackson of Hiawassee; four brothers, James (Betty) Dawkins of Thomaston, Dr. Paul Dawkins of Griffin, and Leonard Dawkins and Cleonard Dawkins, both of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.
