Mr. Roy Harrison Dawson

Mr. Roy Harrison Dawson, age 92, of Thomaston, died Thursday, February 22, 2024, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Dawson will be held Sunday, February 25, at 4:30 PM, at Flint River Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Richard Pinell, Elder Larry Wheeler, and Elder Lee Price will officiate, and interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Saturday from 4:00 until 6:00 PM.

Mr. Dawson was born April 21, 1931, in Thomaston, to the late James Ernest Dawson and the late Wilma Lucile Mauldin Dawson. He was a 1949 graduate of R. E. Institute and a veteran of the US Air Force, having retired as a Master Sergeant with 24 years of service. He was later employed by the Thomaston Police Department for 19 years, retiring with the rank of Captain in 1995. Mr. Dawson enjoyed watching western movies, collecting model cars, tinkering with lawn mowers, and woodworking, especially making birdhouses. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Dawson was a member of Flint River Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dawson was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Smith and Rhunette Aydlotte, and a brother, Ernest Dawson. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Smith Dawson of Thomaston; two daughters: Angela (Greg) Allen of Thomaston and Kathy (John) Hall of Milroy, IN; four sons: Jim (Christi) Daniel of Thomaston, Joe (Lori) Daniel of Reynolds, GA; Jim (Sandy) Dawson of Mesa, AZ, and Mike (Karen) Dawson of Tucson, AZ; a sister, Diane (Walter) Slaton of Oxford, NC; a brother: Bobby Dawson of Jackson, GA; and a brother-in-law, Roswell Aydlotte of Yatesville, GA. Thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
