Mr. Simon Rayford "Ray" Brooks, age 85, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Upson Regional Medical Center. Funeral services for Mr. Brooks will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2019, at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mr. Brooks will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour. Mr. Brooks was born in Upson County on December 2, 1933, a son of the late Floyd Felton and Josephine McKinley Brooks. He was a graduate of Yatesville High School and served his country in the U. S. Army for four years. Mr. Brooks was a retired lab supervisor for Thomaston Mills. He spent a number of years as a loyal member of and photographer for the Hollonville Opry House. He was an avid sports fan and loved his St. Louis Cardinals. Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Betty Robertson Brooks; a daughter, Carol Brooks (Jeff) Wallace of Thomaston; two sons, Monty (Starlett) Ellis of Griffin and Tracy (Kim) Ellis of Marietta; a sister, Jo Ann (Terrell) Miles of Thomaston; a brother, Byron (Jimmie Jo) Brooks of Silver Creek; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Hollonville Opry House in honor of Ray Brooks. The address is Hollonville Opry House, P. O. Box 51, Williamson, GA 30292.
