Mr. Steve Gregory Hammonds, 64, of Thomaston died Saturday, September 3, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, September 6, at 11:00 AM at the Yatesville Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Maguire, Rev. Terry Threadgill, and Rev. John Wesley Long, IV will officiate. Interment will follow in the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home Monday evening from 6 until 8 PM. Mr. Hammonds, son of Joseph Hammonds and the late Hazel Helms Hammonds, was born April 26, 1952, in Upson County. He was a graduate of Yatesville High School, attended Gordon Military College, and earned a BS degree in Business Management from Georgia State University. He was employed by Williams Brothers Trucking Company. He was previously self employed as a truck driver and had driven for Colonial Bread Company. Mr. Hammonds was a member of the Yatesville Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon. Survivors include his wife: Teresa Hammonds of Thomaston; three daughters: Tiffany Hammonds (Zach) Whitley of Hollonville GA; Candice Hammonds (Thomas) Burkett of Thomaston; and Morgan Hammonds of Cumming, GA; two sons: Brett (Shannon) Hammonds of Stockbridge, GA; and Jason (Tiffany) Hammonds of Clarkesville, TN.; his father: Joseph Hammonds of Thomaston; a sister: Jolynn Maddox of Thomaston.
