Mr. Thomas Black "Tommy" Howell, Sr.

Mr. Thomas Black “Tommy” Howell, Sr., age 95, of Thomaston, died Sunday, June 19, 2022, at his daughter’s residence. A service to celebrate Mr. Howell’s life will be held Wednesday, June 22, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Judson Barnes will officiate, and the interment will follow in the Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Mr. Howell was born November 29, 1926, in Upson County, a son of the late William Howell and the late Susie Colquitt Howell. He was a graduate of R.E. Lee Institute. He was employed by the Coca-Cola Company for 35 years as a refrigeration mechanic. He was later employed by the Thomaston-Upson Board of Education as a grounds keeper, a job which he loved. After his retirement, he and his wife, Janelle, visited every state except Alaska and Hawaii. He loved to garden and plant just about anything. He enjoyed walking and visited the Wellness Center almost everyday until he was 88 and his health started to decline. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and was very talented with completing sudoku puzzles. Although he enjoyed all of these things, he loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Howell leaves behind to cherish his memory, his two daughters, Susan (Guy) Carpenter, and Karen (Rex) Kennedy; his son, Thomas B. (Karen) Howell, Jr., all of Thomaston; his sister, Ann Jones of Charlotte, NC; his brother, Kenneth (Shirley) Howell of Roswell; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Janelle Lowe Howell, and twelve brothers and sisters.
