Mr. Thomas Dickson Adams, Jr., 71, of Thomaston, died Thursday, July 16, 2015 at his home. Memorial services for Mr. Adams will be held Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Thomaston with Dr. Albert E. Simmons and the Rev. Hubert Harvey officiating and longtime friends Dr. Jim Elsey and Betsy Williams delivering the eulogy. Mr. Adams was born at Emory Hospital on April 30, 1944, the eldest son of the late Thomas Dickson Adams Sr. and Richmond Atwater Adams. A native of Thomaston, Mr. Adams attended Connecticut’s Avon Old Farms School and Mercer University and earned his degree from Georgia State University. Founder of Adams Realty, Tommy, in partnership with his wife, Martha, established Adams-Harvey Century 21, which became one of the most successful real estate firms in the region. Adams was an enthusiastic supporter of the future of Thomaston and Upson County. He put his business acumen and experience to work for his community as a member and then chairman of the Thomaston-Upson Industrial Development Authority, service that ran from 1989 to 2000. During his tenure on the Authority, Adams played a leadership role in attracting new industry and new jobs to Upson County, including De Ster (now known as Dart Container), Quad/Graphics and Southern Power Company Plant Addison, and in the expansions of several existing industries. Adams was a past chair of the Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce and the Flint River Technical College Board of Directors. He was a member of the board of directors of Thomaston Mills Inc. and C&S Bank. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston. Tommy loved the outdoors, especially spending time on the Flint River, and also was an avid skier, mountain climber and runner. He enjoyed and took great pride in the accomplishments of his wife, Martha, daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, Joe, and reveled in being a grandfather to his twin grandsons, Joseph and Thomas. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Martha Harvey Adams; his daughter, Lisa F. (Joe) Lombardo of Cincinnati, OH; a brother, James Atwater Adams of Thomaston; and two grandchildren, Thomas Harvey Lombardo and Joseph Michael Lombardo. Two nephews and a niece also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Cabell Adams. The family of Mr. Adams will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday from 2:00 pm until the service hour. Contributions in memory of Mr. Adams may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 403 Birdsong St., Thomaston, GA 30286.
