Mr. Virgil Dwight Dowdy

Mr. Virgil Dwight Dowdy, age 71, of Thomaston, died Saturday morning, January 21, 2023, at Harborview Health Care.

Mr. Dowdy was born April 25, 1951, in Upson County, a son of the late Douglas Eubanks Dowdy and the late Shirley Young Wheeless. He was employed as a doffer for Thomaston Mills and later Aldora Mills. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He enjoyed playing games, especially checkers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, W.H. Young and Annie Young, and his paternal grandparents, Charlie Dowdy, Tots Oxley, and Florence Oxley.

Mr. Dowdy is survived by his son, John Dowdy; siblings, Deborah (Dick) Hardy, Lynda (Johnny) White, Tina Lee, Allen (Lunelle) Mercer, and Rusty Mercer; his five grandchildren, Kyle, Reagan, Andrew, Emma, and Everett. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Emory’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
