Mr. William Bayard Grant

Mr. William Bayard Grant, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired), United States Army Reserve, age 93, of Jonesboro, GA, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2015. Mr. Grant is survived by his wife of 73 years, Martha Turner Grant; daughter Dianne (Ron) Harris; two grandsons, Dustin (Amy) Harris and Brent Harris, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Ruth Grant, and brothers Reginald and Keith Grant. Bayard was born in Thomaston, Georgia, on June 1, 1922, and graduated from R.E. Lee Institute, Southern Technical Institute, and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He retired from Delta Airlines in 1990 after 32 years of service as a maintenance engineer. He served on active duty with the United States Army during World War II as a quartermaster officer in the Philippines. Recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict, he served as a quartermaster officer in Italy. Following his active duty service, he served in the Army Reserve for many years. Bayard was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Atlanta, First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, and Blackshear Place Baptist Church of Oakwood, Georgia. The family wishes to acknowledge with profound gratitude the love and support provided over the last few years by Bayard and Martha’s dear friends and relatives. He will be deeply missed by all. The Funeral Service to Honor the Life of William Bayard Grant will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, GA. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
