Mr. William Otis Wheeless

Mr. William Otis Wheeless, age 87, of Thomaston, died Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Harborview Health and Rehab. Funeral services for Mr. Wheeless will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Gary Hall and Bishop Danny Henderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fort Valley, GA, at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Mr. Wheeless was born in Upson County on March 28, 1930, to the late Otis Francis Wheeless and Mary Ellen Thornton Wheeless. He served in the United States Air Force for five years, then served in the Georgia Army National Guard. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base. Mr. Wheeless was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and attended the Church of God (City of Refuge). In addition to his parents, Mr. Wheless was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Kroboth. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Young Wheeless of Thomaston; his son, David (Emma) Wheeless of Fort Valley, GA; a sister: Betty Cochran, of Macon, GA; three step daughters: Deborah (Dick) Hardy; Lynda (Johnny) White; and Tina (Luther) Lee; three step sons: Dwight Dowdy; Allen (Lunelle) Mercer; and Rusty (Brenda) Mercer; one grandchild: Kris Wheeless; two great grandchildren: Elizabeth and Natalie Wheeless; and 7 step grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren.
